Virginia “Carolyn” Sims Hess found her way over the rainbow on April 11, 2020 at the age of 88. She was a loving and strong woman who spent her life caring for her family, seeking adventures, and celebrating holidays.
Carolyn was born July 19, 1931, in Ponca City to Virgil and Jewel Sims and joining her half brother Roy Lee Dunn. Carolyn was an independent and outgoing girl who made life-long friends. She married Bud Hess on September 28, 1949, and they brought Dee and Kent into the world. Bud’s career with Beneficial Finance moved the family to a few locations until finally settling in Oklahoma City.
After raising her family, Carolyn worked for several oil and gas companies in Oklahoma City, finishing her career at the Hightower Company. Her attention to detail and meticulous record keeping were valuable assets to any employer.
Carolyn and Bud loved to travel and spent many happy times on vacations or at Lake Keystone with family and friends Cynthia and John or traveling to Ireland with her friend Eva. She loved her grandchildren and was always ready to take them on an adventure.
Spending her final years in the care of her children and Tuscany Village Center, Carolyn loved to shop, to decorate for holidays and to be accompanied by her best furry friend, Paco.
Carolyn leaves behind her daughter Dee Benvenuto; son Kent and wife Dina Hess; grandchildren Nicole and husband Tim Reilly, Michael Hess, Dana Cleary, and Angie Benvenuto; great grandchildren Addison, Colton, Preston, Conner, Zerek, Zayden, Racyn and River; her dear friend Suzie Braden, and numerous extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, and her husband of forty-nine years, Bud.
Carolyn will be honored at a Graveside Service at Resthaven Cemetery on Thursday, April 16th at 2 PM.
