With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Steve B. Manning, a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather. He left this world on January 9, 2025, at the age of 75. He was raised in Long Beach, California where he grew up before moving to Oklahoma City and graduating from U.S. Grant High School. Steve went on to graduate from UCO with a bachelor's degree in marketing and began his career in insurance. He retired from Oklahoma Farm Bureau after 29 ½ years of service. He took a short hiatus from insurance to flip houses with his friend Larry Pittser before partnering with Mike Aylward to start Hoberecht Insurance Agency here in Oklahoma. The last part of his professional career was enjoyed at FarmAssure where he embraced his role as an insurance marketing rep and made many lifelong friends throughout his career.
Steve met Karen in the fall of '78 and they married on May 12,1979. The two were married for 45 loving years. Steve and Karen lived in Yukon, Oklahoma, where he raised and cherished his family. Steve's love for his wife, Karen, was evident in every joy-filled moment they shared. Together, they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and shared passions. As a father to sons Craig, Chris, and Ryan, and a cherished father-in-law to Cindy and Lindsay, Steve's affection and support were constant sources of strength for his family. He relished being a father, taking on the role of coach to all of his son's sports including soccer, baseball, and basketball. As they grew into men, he became not just their father but also their friend. His legacy of love is further enriched by his role as a devoted grandpa/papa, a title he held dear. Becoming a grandpa/papa to his four grandkids Ashley, Becket, Parker, and Baker were some of the most joyous moments of his life. His love of the water "warmer the better" was well known. He loved having a pool where his grandkids could come and hang out with him, lake vacations during summer with the family, and later in life the yearly vacations he and Karen were able to take to Jamaica.
An outgoing, vivacious, and fun-loving spirit, Steve was well-known for his unwavering enthusiasm for OU football. He often gathered friends and family, sharing good times, hearty laughter, and the thrill of the game. Those who knew him will fondly remember his vibrant personality and his ability to light up any room.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lorene Manning, brother Ken Manning, father-in-law Russ Johnson, sister-in-law Beverly Brewster, and brother-in-law Rusty Johnson. Steve is survived by his wife Karen; sons Craig and wife Cindy Manning, Chris and wife Lindsay Manning, and Ryan Manning; grandchildren Ashley Manning, Becket Manning, Parker Manning, and Baker Manning. Mother-in-law Donna Johnson, sister-in-law Barbara Brewster, brother-in-law Bryan Brewster and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral to honor Steve's life will take place on Friday, January 17th, 2025 at 2:00pm at Yukon Church, 11715 NW 10th Street, Yukon. A place where family and friends will come together to pay tribute to this remarkable man. He will be laid to rest at the Yukon Cemetery.
