Sosamma Mathai Obituary

Sosamma Mathai, fondly known as Joyce, was born on March 18, 1951, in Melpadom, Kerala, India. She was the fourth child and second daughter of the late Mr. Varkey Mathew and Mrs. Sosamma Mathew of the Mamootil family. She grew up in Melpadom and was extremely hardworking and diligent right from a young age. She finished her high school education as well as some vocational studies in Melpadom. Her parents raised her in a godly atmosphere, and she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. Her deep love for the Lord and His word led her to be consistent in her daily walk with the Lord.

On August 1, 1978, she was married to the servant of the Lord, Evg. K.P. Mathai. She walked alongside her husband consistently as a quiet but mighty warrior while they served in and around the various regions of Central Travancore. They built their life with love to each other and devotion to the Lord. In December 1979, their daughter, Priya, was born, and later they welcomed their second daughter, Prettymol, in August 1984. In 2006, the couple immigrated to the United States and made Oklahoma their home. She quickly adjusted to the new lifestyle, workplace, and culture of the land. She served as a Dietary Aide at Spanish Cove Retirement Center for the past 16 years and was well known among her peers to be very sincere and energetic in her job.

She had a very silent demeanor but was very loving and always inquired about the well-being of her co-believers and friends. She would always be found with a smile on her face regardless of her circumstances or hardship. She lived her life to the fullest with joy and contentment. Sosamma treasured her family. She was a faithful wife who was a constant strength to her husband in ministry. She was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother who made it her priority to raise her grandchildren in the way of the Lord by teaching them various songs and memory verses. The Lord welcomed her into His loving arms on January 22nd, 2023, surrounded by her family and church.

She is preceded in death by her brother A.M. Joseph, and is survived by her husband, K.P. Mathai and two daughters: Priya and Prettymol, son-in-laws: Jaison and Ajo and four grandkids: Nathan, Ethan, Joyal, and Hannah as well as her siblings Mathew A. George, A.M. Chacko and Achamma John.

Sosamma was a woman of quiet and gentle strength, but her life had a profound impact on everyone she ministered to. She will be dearly missed.
