Rosie Lugenia Dake Sheppard, passed from this world on November 23, 2023, at home and in the presence of her loved ones. She was 81. Rosie was born on August 29, 1942, in Galena, Kansas to M.H. and Faye Dake.
Rosie was a born traveler moving to Texas to live with her brother when she was just 16 years old. She became a singularly independent woman for her time. With four brothers, she was a natural caregiver and made her career teaching: first music and then later moving into a traditional classroom. She met the love of her life, Leon Sheppard, when she was 29 and married him less than two months later. She said, "I knew exactly what I wanted, and he was it!" They shared 27 happy years doing everything from riding motorcycles to raising three children side by side.
Rosie was never one to let something hard stand in her way. So, when she moved to a predominantly Hispanic school; she took on night-school brushing up on her Spanish and earning her Master's degree from UCO. No matter how much studying she needed to do, Friday nights were spent eating pizza, making homemade chocolate-chip cookies, and watching movies with her three girls and husband who were her heart and soul.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents. M.H. and Faye Dake, of Fairland. Four Brothers. Thomas L. Forbes Sr, Hayes E. Forbes, Leonard O. Forbes, M.H. and Doris Dake of Fairland.
She is survived by three daughters. Teresa Church of Yukon. Melinda Maxon of Yukon. And Mike and Lucinda Gunter of Edmond. Six Grandchildren. Ashley, Karsten, Kimberly, Samantha, Kaylee, and Carter. As well as one great-grandchild, Keegan.
A Viewing & Visitation will be Thursday December 7,2023 from 4:00PM- 8:00PM. Funeral services to celebrate Rosie's life will be held on December 8, 2023 at 2:00PM at Ingram, Smith & Turner Mortuary. The internment following the service will be at the Yukon Cemetery.
