Rita Maria Thompson (Azima Samad) was a devoted Christian who loved God with every ounce of her being. She was born on July 4, 1957, in Oklahoma City, OK. She was the first of two daughters born to Aziza Samad (Geraldyne Thompson). Rita was raised in El Reno, OK where she completed high school and then attended Redlands Community College. She also studied Medical Transcription at Canadian Valley, and Applied Accounting at UAGC.
Even though El Reno was her hometown, Rita had many places she called "home" in her lifetime, from Cali, NYC, Baltimore, Philly, and NJ. But no matter how far she ventured, she always found her way back home in Oklahoma.
El Reno held a special place in her heart, which prompted her in 1996 to start 'God is Good' (G.I.G). G.I.G. was a nonprofit organization that she started to help children in the community from where she came. G.I.G consisted of many things but one of the more important aspects was the after-school program. In the program, Rita and other community members would help kids with homework, tutor them, feed them a hot meal, and just be there to help the children as well as the parents, in many different ways.
Rita had several different jobs, but the most important to her was being a mother. She would NEVER consider it being a job because she loved it so much. Besides God, her children were most important. From the smallest task to the biggest of duties of motherhood, she absolutely enjoyed it all.
Rita is proceeded in death by her mother Aziza Samad, maternal grandparents Charley and Bernice (Franklin) Thompson, maternal great-grandmother Willie Mae (Woodfork) Whitmoore, and maternal great-grandparents Will and Dank (Watts) Thompson.
Those who wait to reunite with her again include her sons Abdul Samad Mack and wife Melanie, Lemuel Samad-Anderson and wife Brittany, Amiyn Samad, and Shayaa Samad; daughter Najlaa Samad; grandchildren Jonah Lobaugh, Dante Pittman, Seth Spruill, Dezshae Mack, Romello Nicholson, Tai-maria Mack, Veronica Killinger-Mack, Lamar Anderson, Lemuel Anderson, La'Vontae Anderson, La'Kyla Anderson, Shaayaa Samad Junior, Ta'Shyaa Samad, Zyair Montgomery-Samad, Samiah Waddington-Samad, Tymiyn Samad, Jasmiyn Samad, Ariah Samad, Damarr Dabney, Samiro' Burrell, Tremain Samad, Aziyza Barnes, and Azima Moore; great-grandchildren Luna Spruill, Nova Spruill, Nicco Mack, Artis Dabney, and Nova Dabney; brother Pete Moore and sister Sherry Gates; and many other extended family members.
Rita Thompson's life will be honored at a graveside service on Saturday, August 28th at 11 AM at the El Reno Cemetery Pavilion.
