Rita Mildred (Pruett) Martin

On August 6th, 2021, Rita Mildred Martin (Pruett) at the age of 88 was called home and carried into Jesus' arms.

Rita was born on May 26, 1933, in Piedmont, Oklahoma to Guy and Grace Pruett. This is where she grew up with 3 other siblings on their farm. Rita graduated from Piedmont High School in 1951 with a love of basketball.

A short time after graduating, she and a friend went to Californian for work. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Leonard Martin on May 7th, 1956. Rita was blessed with two children, Joe and Laura.

In 1966, Rita wanted to move back to Piedmont with her family. She started work in the school cafeteria, where she was later promoted to manage. She also drove the school bus. When she retired from the cafeteria, she continued to drive the bus until she hung up her keys for the last time in 2008.

Rita loved her jobs in the school, and made so many friends with co-workers and students. She took great pride in her work and being a part of Piedmont School. She was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church, where she was a faithful servant. She enjoyed helping in the nursery and providing meals for the church and community. Rita had many hobbies: she loved gardening, reading, and watching Thunder Basketball.

A great light has gone out in the world and she will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Rita is survived by her son Joe Martin and his wife Lynette of Piedmont; four Grandchildren: Jeremy Martin and wife Melanie of Alabama, Hayden Harvey of Oklahoma City, Tony Burgess of Harrah, and Christina Whitford and husband Jason of Piedmont; four Great-Grandchildren: Addison Whitford, Braxton, Jadyn, and Jaxon Martin; nephews: Monte, Jimmy D and Charles; nieces: Sharon, Karen, Connie Dianne; and many Great Nieces and Nephews and Cousins.

Rita is preceded in death by her husband Leonard Martin, daughter Laura (Martin) Harvey, parents Guy and Grace Pruett, two brothers Earl and Raymond Pruett, and sister Rosie Brewer.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 13th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Ingram, Smith & Turner Mortuary in Yukon, OK (201 E Main St. Yukon, OK 73099). Her Funeral service will be on Saturday, August 14th at 2 PM at Ingram, Smith & Turner Mortuary with burial to follow at the Kansas Cemetery in Piedmont.
