Reverend Michael L. Fletcher-Taylor passed from this earthly life to his heavenly home on July 14, 2021. After months of failing health, he died peacefully with his beloved wife Sharon by his side. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Michael was born to Manilla Taylor (Goe) and Zack Taylor in San Diego, California on October 5, 1942. He grew up in the mountains of Evergreen Colorado with his two younger brothers, Danny and John. Michael joined the Marine Corps out of high school in 1960. He earned his bachelor degree at Central State University, pulling off a double major in three years. He was recruited right out of college by Conoco Oil Company and enjoyed a long and successful career there. In 1975 Michael packed up his beloved young family, which included daughter Mary and young sons Zack and Matthew, and moved to Alaska to begin work for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company. Third son Daniel was born there as Michael supervised construction of The Trans-Alaska Pipeline System.
At age 42, he began to draw ever nearer to his Lord, eventually answering God's call on his life. He earned a Master of Divinity degree and entered full time pastoral ministry in The United Methodist Church as an Elder in Full Connection. He and wife, Rev. Sharon Fletcher-Taylor, served the Lord as partners for more than 35 years. Michael was the shepherd of beloved congregations at Red Rock/Bridgeport, Arapaho/Chapel Hill, Vici/Woodward New Horizon, Walters, Mayfair Heights OKC, St Matthews Tulsa. Michael will be remembered by friends and family alike for his love of life and laughter.
As much as he enjoyed pastoral ministry, Michael's heart was in mission work. He led more than a hundred volunteers in missions throughout the world including Mexico, Slovakia, Zimbabwe, the old Soviet Union, Alaska, and many national disaster sights.
The family gratefully declines flowers, but prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted and can be shared on Michael's Tribute Wall at www.IngramSmithTurner.com. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
