Randolph Lane Mickels, a cherished husband of 55 1/2 years, loving father, and dedicated grandfather, passed away on December 31, 2023, at the age of 79 in his Yukon, Oklahoma home. Born on October 2, 1944, in Checotah, Oklahoma, Randy, as he was affectionately known, leaves behind numerous memories that will forever be treasured by his family and friends.
Randy's life was marked by a deep commitment to his loved ones and a strong work ethic. He went to OU for less than a year and then joined the U.S. Marines before he embarked on a career in the telephone industry. He dedicated over three decades of service to Southwestern Bell (AT&T) retiring in 2003, leaving an indelible mark on the industry he served.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Randy was a devoted family man. He married his beloved wife Christine Mickels, and together they shared a bond built on love, trust, and mutual support. Their journey through life was filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
As a father and grandfather, Randy displayed a remarkable level of patience, guidance, and unconditional love. He cherished his son Scott Mickels and daughter Randi Akers, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. Randy's greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren grow, guiding them along their respective paths, and witnessing their successes.
After serving his country with honor and dedication, Randy found a sense of camaraderie in the Marines. Enlisting in October 1965, and honorably discharged on November 15, 1972, he remained a proud veteran, cherishing the memories and bonds forged during his service.
His hobbies were walking, watching kids and grandchildren play sports, and watching sports on TV. He loved his old western shows on TV and old movies.
Randy was preceded in death by his loving parents, Herbert Mickels and Edna Mickels. Randy's legacy lives on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Christine; his cherished son, Scott Mickels and wife, Kelly; and daughter, Randi Akers and husband, Mike; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and brother, Steve Mickels.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Randy's life will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Ingram, Smith & Turner Mortuary with interment to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
