Philip Varghese Obituary

Philip Moonnumoolayil Varghese was born in Thumpamon Thazham, Kerala on November 30, 1953. He was the third child and first son to the late Philipose Varghese and Chinnamma Varghese of the Moonnumoolayil family. He was an avid reader and constant learner and his passion for the Lord Jesus Christ led him to help in various capacities in his local church. He departed this earth suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, April 29th, 2022.

Philip Moonnumoolayil Varghese grew up in Ulanadu (Thumpamon Thazham) and was an extremely hard working and sincere man. From the tender age of 15, he struck out on his own and worked tirelessly and studied his way up to earn his Bachelor of Commerce in 1983 from University of Mysore, Bachelor of Laws/Legum Baccalaueus (LLB) from University of Poona in 1987 while simultaneously earning his Masters Diploma in Business Administration in 1987 from Institute of Management Development & Research, Poona. He then went onto earn his Master of Commerce from the University of Poona in 1990.

During this time, he was also introduced to and married Annamma Baby, the daughter of the late Palathumpattu Thomas Baby and Thankamma Baby. Together, they began building their life and in 1987 they welcomed their daughter, Deepa.

He worked as the Executive Assistant to Managing Director, Manager Personnel and Administration and Materials Manager all in tandem for Emcure Pharmaceuticals LTD from 1985-1996. His chief executive officer described him to be honest, sincere, and diligent in his duties and had leadership qualities and capacity. He left this esteemed position to immigrate to the United States with his family in 1996, in pursuit of seeking advancement in his daughter's future.

In 1998, he was able to obtain a position in the Oklahoma State Department of Health and in 1999 he started working at the Commissioners of the Land Office and eventually became Minerals Management Specialist at this department till his passing.

He was also heavily involved in his church, Praise Tabernacle, serving in various roles including, but not limited to, youth Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, secretary, and auditor and was always willing and ready to serve the church with providing sermons and messages several times a year whenever asked.

His smile was infectious, and his laughter was contagious. His life was an example of model behavior in discipline, exercise, and healthy living. He was voracious in his efforts to continually keep growing in his spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional well-being. He strengthened many with uplifting words of encouragement. Philip Varghese lived his life successfully and in everything he did, he gave God glory and reflected the characteristics of Christ to all he met. He is survived by his wife Annamma, daughter Deepa, son-in-law Lijo, grandson, Seth. As well as his siblings, Susamma George, Leelamma Koshy, Kuruvila Varghese (Joy), and Sabu Varughese along with their spouses and children.
