James Michael "Mike" Hildebrand was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on December 5, 1948, to Samuel and Myrtle Hildebrand. He passed away peacefully at home on June 13, 2022.
His family moved to Yukon, OK when Mike was 11 years old. He graduated from Yukon High School as a star athlete competing in track and field, basketball, baseball, and football. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Hawaii on a football scholarship. He then joined the Air National Guard, stationed in Biloxi, MS. Mike worked a few years at Western Electric in Oklahoma City before beginning a long-term career in the trucking industry. He drove trucks hauling everything from milk products to explosive ordinances to crude oil. His affinity for trucking logistics propelled him to be the Director of Trucking Operations for over a dozen states.
Mike stayed active all his life working his cattle and playing with the grandkids. He ignored every conversation about retirement because he loved everything he did. He was a man larger than life whose huge hands served to provide and protect his family. His great big belly laugh was a well-known trademark recognized by many. This happy, loyal, trustworthy man was loved and will be missed in more ways than words can express.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel, and Myrtle Hildebrand. He is survived by Connie, his partner and wife for nearly 27 years; his two children, Shelly Hildebrand-Beach and her husband, Michael; and Travis Hildebrand and his wife, Tiffany; his brother, Tony Hildebrand and his wife, Cindy, and his sister, Brenda Milam; stepchildren, John McGuire, Paul McGuire and Lisa, his wife, and Rebecca McGuire; Grandchildren, Haylee, Hayden and Elise; along with nieces and nephews and a host of friends who worked alongside him.
A viewing will be held for Thursday, June 16, 2022, from 4 to 8 PM at Ingram, Smith & Turner Mortuary, 201 E Main Street, Yukon, OK 73099. Funeral services will be Friday, June 17, 2022, at 10:00 AM, also at Ingram, Smith & Turner. Internment will follow at Yukon Cemetery.
