Mary Puthukkeril, loving wife of Samuel Puthukkeril, was born on May 3, 1946, in Mavelikara, Kerala, India. She entered the world as Mary Daniel, daughter of the late K.M. Daniel and Mrs. Thankamma Daniel of the Kottayadiyil family. At the age of 16, she left her home and joined nursing school in Bombay, India. She completed her studies and earned her nursing credentials in 1966. She continued on in her profession for many years as a dedicated nurse until her retirement.
As many knew, Mary's faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ was central to who she was at her core and inspired how she loved others. Mary came to know the Lord at an early age, and this influenced every part of her life from that time forward.
She was the fourth of eight children-with her siblings as follows: (Late) Mathews Daniel, Gracy Samuel-Kerala, (Late) Abraham Daniel, Lizy George-Kerala, Suzy Chandy-Oklahoma, Elizabeth Samuel-Texas, Noel Daniel-Oklahoma. Mary's great love and sense of responsibility for her family led her to sponsor her siblings, which enabled several of them to immigrate to the United States. She envisioned a greater future for them and they have each shared in the blessings of her generosity. Mary's love, kindness and hospitality impacted each of their lives.
Samuel and Mary were married on January 6, 1972 in Puthencavu, Kerala. They lived for several years in Kuwait where they had their precious daughter, Silvy. This young family emigrated to the United States in 1979 where they made New York their home and later settled in Yukon, Oklahoma.
One of Mary's greatest joys was seeing Silvy marry Sajan Alexander and welcoming Serena and Gideon into their family. The birth of her grandchildren was the highlight of her later years.
Mary is remembered by her husband as someone who had great determination. There was no task too big for her to complete, no challenge too great to overcome. She had a great servant's heart, and her love and compassion for others overflowed.
Mary loved her family and was especially grateful to her husband for all he did to faithfully care for her. They were committed to one another, in sickness and in health. The Lord welcomed her into His loving arms at 11:05 pm on May 24, 2021.
Mary Puthukkeril was not a woman of many words, but a woman of quiet, gentle strength, who faithfully endured to the end. She will be dearly missed by all.
