Marjorie Vawter Obituary

Marjorie Helen Vawter (Chambers) born June 11, 1928 passed away at home on February 14, 2021.

Marjorie was born in Charleston Illinois to Hazel Lourash and Roy Chambers. Marjorie was raised Baptist until 10 or 11 years old when a colporteur came to their door and they joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Marjorie graduated from Broadview Academy in 1946. She worked as an aide in a hospital near Joilet, Illinois where she met her husband Paul Vawter who was a patient at the time. They were married September 15, 1950. They had two children Rebecca Ann and William Roy. They were married 31 years before Paul's unexpecting passing. Marjorie then studied for her LPN and graduated in 1959 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and worked as a surgical nurse. She then caught the travel bug and worked in Oklahoma City, Ok, Hurst, Texas, Denver, Colorado, Salt Lake City, Utah, Corpus Christy, Texas, and back to Denver, Colorado where she eventually retired after 30+ years of nursing. She was then led back to Oklahoma by a close family friend of Paul's where she resided until her death. She moved to Wagoner, OK where she lived 35 years before moving in with her Daughter in Edmond, Oklahoma. In her retirement she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, stitching, and odds and ends crafting.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, her son William, and 2 half-brothers Jim Lourash and Jack Chambers.
She is survived by daughter Rebecca Ann Nicholas (Vawter) of Oklahoma City, OK, three granddaughters Angela Thompson (Vawter) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Teresa Lynn White (Nicholas) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Karen Ann Tate (Nicholas) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and 3 great grandchildren Kaelynn Marie White, Nathan Alan Tate, and Brookelynn Nichole Tate.

We want to thank all of our family and friends for the outpouring of support and love during this time and to the wonderful nurses and staff of Russell Murray Hospice for the loving care they provided to Marjorie and her family.
