Loy was born on September 1, 1930, and passed away at his home on November 27, 2019, at the age of 89. He was born in the Irving Community near Ryan, Oklahoma. His parents were Ester & Lewis C. Smith. Loy was one of eight children that were raised on a 180-acre farm in Ryan. They raised cattle, cotton, watermelons & had a large vegetable garden.
After graduating from high school, Loy served in the US Navy on a destroyer ship during the Korean War for 4 years. He married Elaine Branson on November 22, 1952. Elaine was earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Oklahoma at the time. Loy graduated from the Cayne Electrical Trade School in Chicago & became an electrician, working many large industrial contracts in several states. Loy & Elaine raised two daughters & two sons that they were very proud of. He enjoyed fishing, hunting & camping in his younger years. He had a passion for his many dogs over his lifetime, especially his Dachshunds and Weimaraners. Loy was a faithful member of South Yukon Church of Christ since 1972.
He was generous with his time, talents & money to his friends and family. He enjoyed traveling to visit family and discover new places once he retired. Loy & Elaine were married for over 58 years at the time of her passing in 2011.
Loy was proceeded in death by his mother & father, his three brothers and four sisters. He was also very saddened by the deaths of his two sons, Kenneth L & Jeffrey A Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Eslee Kay Lynn Smith; two daughters, Sharon Osterman & Janet Sobieski; six grandsons, Kevin Bales, Steven Bales, Chris Bales, Alex Sobieski, Nick Sobieski & Sean Sobieski; and also 11 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Ingram, Smith & Turner on December 5, 2019, at 10am.
