LoAnn Childers passed away on March 19, 2025, in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 89.
LoAnn was born to parents Lola and Jones Phelps on September 23, 1935 in McAlester, OK.
LoAnn was raised in McAlester where she attended school graduating with the class of 1952. She moved to Oklahoma City where she met Eugene Childers. They went on to marry July 23, 1960 in Paris, Texas. The two were blessed with their son Douglas Allen whom she loved very much. In the marriage, she gained two sons Carl Ray and Gene. Her favorite role was being Granny to her grandchildren. She loved having having them spend the night, watch cartoons, and making them cinnamon toast.
Throughout LoAnn's life, she was known for her love of animals. She found such joy feeding raccoons she would see in the wild. Spending summers at Colorado's Vallecitoo Lake was where she was happiest. It was here that she opened and operated The Book Shed for many years. When she was in Oklahoma, she would go to garage sales searching for treasures to bring back to her book store. She truly loved to read. If you needed to know the name of a plant, LoAnn could always tell you. She had a wealth of knowledge when it came to gardening, plants, and flowers.
LoAnn is preceded in death by her parents Lola and Jones Phelps; sister Doris Maxey; sister Lahoma Carvasos;
LoAnn is survived by her husband of 63 years Eugene Childers; son Doug Childers and wife Charli; son Carl Ray Childers; son Gene Childers and wife Susie; grandson Jayson Childers; grandson Matthew Childers and wife Zoe; grandson Taylor Childers and wife Kaitlyn; granddaughter Courtney Hindman and husband Brad; granddaughter Brittany Childers; grandson Joshua Ogle and wife Lesley; grandson Christopher Ogle and wife Lindsay; great grandchildren Owen, David, and Michael Childers, Brooklyn and Braden Hindman; Bejamin and Ailey Ogle; and Ronan and Finn Ogle.
