Linda Blakemore Obituary

On April 4, 1952, Linda Louise Daugherty was born to Buford & Clarita Daugherty in Maryville, MO. She was the middle child and wasn’t afraid to let you know it. She had a strong bond with her older sister Shari and younger brother Sammy.

She was raised in the Catholic faith and attended Catholic school up to middle school and then attended Maryville Public School where she would eventually graduate in 1970. That same year her daughter Diane was born. In 1973, Linda moved to Kansas City to be closer to her sister Shari where she eventually started a job with United Investors. Little did she know, her new job is where she would meet her future husband, Ed Blakemore.

They married in 1976 and through this marriage, Linda gained a 5-year-old son, Steve Blakemore. In 1977 the family moved to Yukon, OK and two years later Linda and Ed welcomed their son Neil Blakemore. They continued to live in Yukon until a brief move to Florida and eventually divorced in 1986. Linda and the children returned to Yukon to allow Diane and Steve to finish High School. With both Diane and Steve out of the home and pursuing a college degree, Linda and Neil moved to Kansas City to be closer to family in 1991. Linda and her sister Shari purchased a home together. Linda continued to work in the insurance business where she was in the Accounting and Claims Department and excelled in her Customer Service roles. Linda was a very loyal rule follower, an ideal employee. Her background in accounting would continue even after retirement by continuing to complete family member's taxes, as recently as this current year.

In 1999, Linda met John Elliott. While dating John she continued to live with her sister and was there to support and care for her as Shari battled cancer. Once her beloved sister passed away, Linda and John moved in together. Although they never married, they spent 17 wonderful years together. They enjoyed riding John’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle and would go on many trips with Linda’s brother Sammy and sister-in-law Vicki. They enjoyed family gatherings, birthdays, holidays, many trips to the casino and of course Royals baseball and Kansas City Chiefs watch parties. Needless to say, Linda was thrilled to see the Chiefs win a super bowl this year.

Linda was a devoted partner as she cared for John through his battle with cancer. John passed away in 2016 with Linda by his side. Two years prior, Linda’s brother Sammy passed away from cancer as well. This left Linda and Vicki with a very special bond that only grew stronger. As time passed, these two were inseparable.

Linda enjoyed planning and sharing in family vacations to different cities in the US. She enjoyed reading, coloring and watching her favorite shows, American Idol and the Bachelor. Most of all, Linda enjoyed being a mother to her three children and a grandmother to her sweet Jessica, Joseph, and Hana.

Her smile and laugh were contagious. Linda will be missed by so many.
