Larry Edward Jelinek, the son of Alfred W. Jelinek & Ollie May (Owen) Jelinek, was born on November 5th, 1950. He was a graduate of Yukon High School's class of 1969. For many years he worked in the printing business for: The Oklahoma City Board of Education, Norrick Bros. & Northwest Printing. He also worked for the family's Yukon Marine & later drove semi-trucks for Werner on the Oklahoma City to Amarillo run, viewing the vast landscape & honing in on wildlife along the way. He farmed all his life, for it was in his blood, as did his ancestors who immigrated from Czechoslovakia and who worked the land before & after the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889. As those before him, he too, plowed the fields, harvested the wheat, bailed the hay, and cared for the animals he raised. He mastered his family's history & spent the entirety of his life living in two homes less than a mile apart, both on the ancestral land he loved so dearly.
His passion in life was hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Equally, he relished time spent with family & his vast array of friends. He was always there for anyone in need, dropping everything to help & ensure they were taken care of. He began each day with a good outlook regardless of what needed to be completed. Larry shared his knowledge with others & loved seeing what they retained and passed on. He was honest, loyal, a wonderful friend to so very many, an incredible and loving brother - truly one of a kind. His cackling laughter will be sorely missed.
He was the strongest of men & fought valiantly until finally letting go on April 15th.
He was blessed with two children: Ethan, who preceded him in death and born of his first wife Debra Gilbert; and Allie Jelinek (Brian) Clinton, whose mother was Gail (Penix) Jelinek, his second wife and who also preceded him in death.
He is also survived by his daughter-in-laws: darling Darla Parks and Carrie Cochran; grandchildren Andrew Jelinek (Bri Coleman), Emily Jelinek, Heaven Autrey, Shalynn Cavaness, and Makia Cavaness; his great-grandchildren Leia Jelinek & Lathan Jelinek; his sister Sheron Jelinek Owen and his nephew Alexander Owen.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 27th at Ingram, Smith & Turner in Yukon. All are invited to the graveside service at Yukon Cemetery at 2 p.m. Immediately following, there will be a celebration of Larry's life (as well as "Larry Stories" relayed by his family & friends) at Czech Hall. Czech Hall resides on land donated by his great-grandfather, who was a charter member of the lodge organized in 1902. He resided as President of the lodge for 20 years.
"But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or the plants of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind."
