Joan Ellen (Christensen) Gilworth

Joan Ellen Gilworth, or "Joanie," as known by family, was born on December 18, 1957, to John Joy and Lucille (Jones) Christensen in Arlington, VA. Our beloved mother has left this earth after a long battle with stage four cancer. A true fighter until the end, she passed away on June 30, 2022, at 64-years-old.

Joanie was the second youngest of seven children. Being a part of a military family, she then went on to live in Fort Knox, KY for a short while before ending up in Fulda, Germany around the age of three. The family remained in Germany for three years before returning to the states and making their new home at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, NM just in time for Joanie to begin her elementary school years.

In 1966, the family relocated yet again to Weatherford, OK which is just fifteen short miles to Thomas, OK - the original home of Joanie's parents. Joanie completed her high school education, graduating in 1976. She went on to live in Oklahoma City, eventually obtaining an associate degree at El Reno Community College. Joanie had multiple talents and pursued many avenues during her life, but her favorite career was medical coding for Integris Medical Health System.

Joanie is survived by her children, Lacy Justine Gilworth, Suthern Dixie Gilworth, and Rhett Wylee Gilworth; siblings, Joy Sue Christensen, Nancy Lynn Rice and her husband Richard, Sharon Christensen Hays and her husband Eddie, John Gary Christensen and his wife Dayna, and Albert Niel Christensen; grandchildren, Castiel and Zed Gilworth; thirteen nieces and nephews; many cousins; and numerous other friends and family members.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, John Joy and Lucille Christensen, sister, Gwendolyn Constance Christensen Schmid, and grandchildren Magnolia Lucille-Hazel and Paladin Joy-Charles. 

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Ingram, Smith & Turner Mortuary, 201 E Main Street, Yukon OK 73099. Green Burial will follow at Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas, OK.
