Janet Kay Guzman passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, in Yukon, OK at the age of 85 after battling ovarian cancer.
Janet was born to parents Estella and Lester Snyder on April 6, 1939 in Payne, Ohio. She grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana alongside her siblings Sharron, Ray, and Pamela. Janet attended school graduating with the Southside Highschool class of 1957.
Janet went on to attend the Indiana University where she studied mathematics with a minor in Latin. She earned her lifetime teaching certification that led her to teach high school math in Michigan and Illinois as well as at the Santa Barbara Junior College in California.
Janet married Al Green and from that union was blessed with their only son Phillip. She was a hands on mom, very nurturing, and acertive when she needed to be.
Janet applied and was accepted to a special aircraft engineering program. She went on to work for Northrop Grumman solving the toughest problems in space, aeronautics, defense and cyberspace to meet the ever evolving needs of customers worldwide. She was incredibly intelligent with a work ethic that was second to none. Her employer and colleagues valued what she brought to their organization recognizing her with numerous commendations.
Janet met Williams Guzman at the officer's club where Janet asked him to join Toastmasters Club. Their connection was instant and led to a two year dating period with William asking her to marry him three times. As the saying goes, the third time was a charm and the two were married September 17, 1983 in Oxnard, California. As a couple, they continued being involved in Toastmasters for many years. They were both members of car clubs and had a special love for classic cars. Traveling was something they thoroughly enjoyed visiting destinations all over the world. Their favorite destinations were always in Europe. When they weren't traveling, they enjoyed dancing on the weekends and singing karoke. Janet gained two bonus sons Jason and Jared when she married William. She loved them like her own and was the best mom of boys. She was the scorekeeper when they were playing sports and used her programming skills to make spreadsheets to keep players stats and one to communicate with parents. This was all long before there were apps for this.
Janet was known as being kind, helpful, considerate, and genuinely a cheerful person. She mentored high school girls who were young mothers offering encouragement and guidance. Janet was gifted and competitive while playing Bridge. Her skills allowed her to win enough tournaments to earn the title of Bridge Grand Master. She was also an avid golfer and found a love for painting. Janet lived life to the fullest, loved others, helped others, and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
