Helen Henson Obituary
Helen Dolores Henson, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away on September 24, 2019 at the age of 84 in El Reno, Oklahoma. Helen was born to parents John Gwaltney and Classie Posey Gwaltney-Haynes on February 26, 1935 in Watonga, Oklahoma.
She grew up in the Checotah area and loved taking care of people. She met her spouse Pete Henson and they were married on November 18th, 1961. She had one daughter, Emily Henson Owen, whom she loved very much. Throughout Helen’s life, she was known for her dedication to others.
Helen was very diverse across the fields of her employment opportunities such as Southwestern Bell, and Coburn Optical. Helen’s favorite job above all others was being a mama and in fact, adjusted her work schedule after the birth of her child, Emily allowing her to enjoy her role as a mother. In later years Helen worked as a personal care assistant helping others. Helen will be missed by all who knew her and loved her dearly including her lifelong best friend Lavon Duvall.
Helen Dolores Henson is preceded in death by her father and mother John Gwaltney & Classie Gwaltney-Haynes, brothers John Ray Gwaltney & C. L. Gwaltney, and husband Pete Henson. Helen is survived by her daughter Emily Owen and husband Toby of Yukon.
Helen's life will be remembered on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Checotah Senior Activity Center (611 N. Broadway St, Checotah, OK 74426) with burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah. Visitation will be held on Monday from 12 noon - 2 PM at the Checotah Senior Activity Center before the Service.
