Gary Gray Owen, our beloved brother, passed away peacefully in the home of his brother in Edmond, Oklahoma, on February 11, 2026. Gary was born on January 3, 1949, in Alice, Texas, to Allyn and Frances Owen. He was the youngest of five children. In a lot of ways he was the entertainer of the family, always knowing how to bring laughter into every family gathering. His impressions of certain animals, especially a running ostrich, as well as his monkey act, were legendary and brought roars of laughter. That was our Gary.
His marriage to Sharon Shepherd lasted 50 years until her death in June 2022. She was the love of his life, and his constant desire was to be reunited with her. His wish has come true. They made their home in Norman, Oklahoma, where they were happy and content, and enjoyed relationships with several of the neighbors and their children.
Gary had two careers during his lifetime. The first phase was as a roughneck, driller, and tool pusher in the offshore oil industry. These jobs took him all over the world but kept him away from his wife more than he wanted, so he made a career change as an independent truck driver owning his own rig. In that capacity, he was able for the most part to be home at night.
Gary was also preceded in death by his parents Allyn W. Owen and Frances M. Gray Owen, sister Donna Kay Anderson, and his daughter, Michelle. Gary is survived by two sisters, Jo Carroll Reid and Jeani Hudson and brother Roger Owen and wife Janet, and many nieces and nephews.
Gary will be missed by all who knew him. His laughter was contagious and his personality drew everyone to him. His life journey has ended and his heavenly journey has begun. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
