Edward McBroom Obituary

Edward Glenn McBroom, was born on September 26, 1964 in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He is survived by: daughter, Whitney Dawn and husband Mark Lewis, of Norman; son, C. Erik and wife Rhea-Anna McBroom; grandson, B. Travis McBroom of Oklahoma City; brothers, Aaron McBroom and Kaye Morgan of Lindsay, Bruce and wife Barbara McBroom of El Reno; sisters, Rita and husband Jim Motes of Edmond, Carol and husband Kyle Hilton of Double Oak, Texas, Sue McBroom of El Reno, Darla and husband Ferris Mapes of Rotunda West, Florida, LaFreda Wyatt of Comanche and Retha and husband Larry of Geary; and special friends, Patty Danker and Vickie Felan. He is preceded in death by: his wife, Penni Anne Dixon-McBroom; parents, Aaron Earl and Faye McBroom; sisters, Lisa McBroom, Jean Roan, Kaye Hamilton, June Nabors and Sheila Hinn; brothers, Jerry McBroom, Jackie McBroom, and Michael McBroom.

The McBroom family came from Ulster, Ireland and arrived in America about 1720. They settled in Rowan County, North Carolina because it looked so much like Northern Ireland. McBroom ancestors help settle Cannon Co. Tennessee in the early 19th century and the home of Henry McBroom in Woodbury, Tennessee became the first courthouse. On the eve of the Civil War, Abel Armstrong McBroom, great-grandfather of Glenn, moved his family to the Ozark region of Madison Co. Arkansas. Abel's son John fought for the Confederacy and later moved to Dexter, Texas. His youngest son, Isaac Payton was Glenn's grandfather but was too young to serve. Isaac and Lucinda Upton McBroom brought their family to Oklahoma not long after statehood and farmed in Pottawatomie County. Glenn's parents, Aaron and Faye bore seventeen children all together and lived in the vicinity of Gene Autry, Joy and Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

Glenn spent his youth growing up in Joy, Oklahoma, near Wynnewood, and graduated from Wynnewood High School in 1982. He married his high school sweetheart, Penni Anne Dixon, that same year on February 12th. She was the daughter of Floyd Eugene and Shirley Ann Lancaster-Dixon. He was a carpenter by trade but considered by many to be one of the most skilled old world style craftsmen in the county. Finish-carpentry and custom cabinets were his primary pursuits, but his talents were multifaceted. He had an artist's eye for drawing and creating whatever he lended his attention to from portrait drawings to a handsome dollhouse for his daughter. While building the doll house in his garage, neighbors would frequent in the evenings as toiled away offering to buy it or wishing to put an order in for one. Many late-night projects would be underway in Glenn McBroom's garage and many times his stories and jovial spirit would bring visits from family and friends.

Glenn's wife, Penni loved antiques and beautiful things. She took great pride in making a fine home for Glenn and their two children, Erik and Whitney. Holidays were always a lot of fun. Halloween would start off with costumes and yard decorations all made by hand. Glenn took great pride in getting yard of the month. Thanksgiving and Christmas brought on the longest hours when Glenn would be working to complete projects to have extra money for presents and gifts. No task would be turned down to provide for the family he loved so much. He could pick at a guitar, and he loved good music - classic rock & roll gave him much inspiration along with his favorite pastime of visiting with friends and family.

Glenn McBroom accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior. God almighty, the creator of all things blessed us with Glenn. His talents, sensibilities, wit and character mirror the ones of hard work, creativity and pride born of the Ulster-Scots Irish heritage.
