Edna Wilhelmina (Jones) Jones

Edna Wilhelmina Jones was born on February 23, 1935, to James Norbert Jones and Elizabeth Gray Jones in the Bronx, New York City, where she was raised on Washington Avenue. She was one of six children, growing up alongside her brother Fredrick (deceased) and her sisters Norma, Fannie, Thelma (deceased), and Dorthy.
Edna graduated from York High School in 1955, earning a diploma in Nursing and Science. She continued her education at the College of New Rochelle, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in nursing and education, laying the foundation for a life of compassionate service.
For 35 years, Edna dedicated herself to her work at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in the OB/GYN Department. As a nurse, she played a vital role in bringing countless new lives into the world, touching families with her care, skill, and kindness.
Outside of her professional life, Edna found joy in traveling with her sisters, often embarking on cruises to tropical destinations. She loved growing flowers and took great pleasure in caring for her fish, creating beautiful aquariums that reflected her nurturing spirit. Edna also had a fondness for all shades of blue and held a special admiration for elephants, which she saw as gentle, spiritual beings.
In 2002, Edna moved to Yukon, Oklahoma, where she continued to live a life filled with love and family until her passing on April 23, 2026.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, John Robert Hunt III, and his wife Estella of Ellenwood, Georgia; her daughter, Norma E Johnson of Yukon, Oklahoma; her grandchildren Jill, John Robert Jr., Keeana, Andrew, and Jadzia; and her great-grandchildren Brandon, Darius, Alexis, Chelsea, Theodore, and Reya. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
It is with a joyful heart that we celebrate Edna's life, knowing she is now at peace, walking with God and her ancestors in the heavenly kingdom.
