Doris Lauderdale, long-time resident of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 21, 2020, at the age of 75. Doris was born on October 2, 1944, in Carthage, Missouri to parents Lawrence Ingram and Nina Ingram Asher and was the firstborn of five children. Growing up, she worked at the Dog House restaurant, known for their 10 cent hamburgers, and Braum's. Doris was a proud graduate of Okmulgee High School and showcased her musical talent as a Keynote singer under Ms. Finley. In 1964, she welcomed her daughter Lynn. Doris was an active member throughout her life at Calvary Baptist Church in Okmulgee. She taught Children's Sunday School for many years, helped with Vacation Bible School, and sang in the choir. Doris, along with her mother Nina, sister Norene, brother Tim, nephew Tim, and long-time pianist Lucille Chambers, led a nursing home ministry for over 15 years. They ministered to residents every weekend with singing and sharing devotions, and many came to know the Lord.
Doris shared her compassion and servant-care for others as a Home Health Aid where she assisted home-bound patients around the community with their cleaning, personal care, grocery shopping and running errands. For almost 40 years, Doris cared for her mother Nina and step-father TJ as she dedicated her time and responsibility until Nina's passing in 2015.
Besides helping and ministering to others, she loved to travel to the Ozarks. She referred to herself as a "Missourian" and longed to return to her birth state, where she enjoyed the many changes in seasons and the beauty of the rolling hills and countryside. For many years, she would return with her mother Nina and TJ to see the old home place and reunite with family. Doris also enjoyed visiting farms and stables to watch and ride horses, amazed at their magnificent beauty. At home, she loved to bake cakes, pies, and other treats for family and friends. She would buy special Jonathan apples on her trips to Missouri to use in her pies. Holidays were her favorite time of the year and she would decorate the house with hand-sewn and homemade decorations, and knitted and crocheted many gifts for others. She would use her crochet talents to make baby booties and hats for the Okmulgee Memorial Hospital nursery as a gift for new parents, along with a New Testament Bible. Her care and ministry touched many lives in the Okmulgee community.
In her homegoing, Doris has reunited with her father Lawrence Ingram, mother Nina Asher, step-father TJ Asher, brother Larry Ingram, and sister-in-law Cheryl Ingram. Doris is survived by her nephew Tim Ingram.
