Mrs. Doris June Hapke, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on June 12, 2024. Doris was born in Texola, Oklahoma on December 18, 1935 to Loyd and Betty Sanderson. Doris married the love of her life, Frank "Bud" Hapke in 1955 in San Diego, California. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and friends, and creating a warm and loving home.
Early in her married life, Doris took an interest in cake decorating. In her small town in Maine, she became the local cake decorator for everyone's special occasions. She loved to surprise her daughters with special birthday cakes each year. As long as she was able, she continued making birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends.
Doris was also the babysitter for neighborhood children that she loved as her own. Because Mrs. Hapke was too difficult to say, she became "Happy" to the children she cared for. To her grandchildren, she was known as Granna. She was so proud of their accomplishments, and attended all of their performances. She took care of them and spoiled them, always making sure they had everything that they wanted.
Along with her husband Bud, Doris was devoted to working for the Lord. They supported missionaries and pastors from New Mexico to Japan and from Maine to Oklahoma. Doris played her accordion in church, helped her husband lead the choir, and taught Sunday School classes. She supported building funds through rummage sales, bake sales, and countless batches of peanut brittle. Doris always made sure that there was plenty of food at every church dinner. She contributed many Jello salads and German Chocolate cakes.
Doris truly had a servant's heart when caring for others. She always provided flower arrangements, fruit baskets, and meals for those who were sick and convalescing. Her signature Angel Food cake and peaches were always welcomed. She sat by the bedside of many, as she never wanted anyone to be alone when they were in the hospital or nursing home. She worked tirelessly through the recovery of her husband's and sisters' health issues and their rehabilitation. Even in her last days she cared for her sister through telephone calls and monthly care packages to ensure that she had everything she wanted. There is no one more deserving of rest. She has surely heard the words, "Well done my good and faithful servant."
Doris was preceded in death by: husband, Frank Hapke; parents, Loyd and Betty Sanderson; brother JA Sanderson; and sisters, Wanda Smart, and Nancy Tivis. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl and husband Mike Klika and Melissa Haxton; grandchildren Steven Klika and wife Julianna, Lyric Haxton, Mariah Haxton, McKenna Haxton, and Jonathan Haxton; great grandchildren Ryker and Rory Klika.
There will be a public visitation on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with services following on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 10:00 am, Ingram, Smith and Turner Mortuary in Yukon, Oklahoma. She will be laid to rest at the Yukon Cemetery in Yukon, Oklahoma. Doris's legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
