Charles Wayne Owen

Charles Wayne Owen, Sr. passed away on November 17, 2022, in Piedmont, Oklahoma at the age of 89. "Wayne" was born to parents Charles Verdell "Booger" Owen and Lois Jewell (Hallum) Owen on February 13, 1933, in Caddo County, Oklahoma. After high school, Wayne served in the Army spending some time in Alaska. Upon his return home, he met and fell in love with Toy Floleta Hurley. They were married for 67 years and together raised 3 children. Wayne was a gifted carpenter and was blessed with amazing woodworking talent. He spent the last 27 years at Southern Nazarene University, retiring at the age of 88. His children were so proud of him and would tell people, "My Dad built a better world." Wayne loved riding horses and spent many hours in the saddle. He loved his horses and continued to ride until the age of 83. He was President of the Yukon Round-Up Club for many years. Wayne was a member of the Canadian County Cowboy Church, attending the very first service in the cinder block church in 2010. Of all his accomplishments, Wayne was most proud of his family. He would tell everyone he met, "I've got the best family there ever was." In reality, we were the ones truly blessed to have Wayne in our lives as Father & Friend.

Charles Wayne Owen is preceded in death by both parents "Booger" and Lois Owen, his brother Samuel Dwayne Owen and sister Jewell Layne "Corkey" Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Toy Floleta Owen, of Piedmont OK; 1 son, Charles Wayne "Jimmy" Owen, Jr. of Yukon, Oklahoma; 2 daughters, Donna Kay Owen Mussyal and husband Marvin of Piedmont, Oklahoma, and Rhonda Owen Schindler and husband Chuck of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of beloved friends.

Wayne's life will be remembered on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Canadian County Cowboy Church with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Ingram, Smith & Turner Mortuary. Services are under the direction of Ingram, Smith and Turner Mortuary in Yukon, OK.
