Charles Ray Brakefield
January 18, 1937 – May 4, 2020
Charles Ray "Chuck" Brakefield went to meet his Heavenly Father on May 4, 2020, and was reunited with the loved ones that have gone on before him.
As a child, Chuck worked on the Brakefield Farm and the Fry Farm where he milked cows before breakfast and after school. Chuck attended Yukon Schools but graduated from Duncan, OK.
Following high school graduation, Chuck moved to Yukon for a time, then moved to Oxnard, CA for fireman training in 1957. From 1958 to 1972, he proudly served as Battalion Chief. When he retired from the fire department, Chuck returned to Oklahoma where he lived in Piedmont and Yukon to start his own C & L Hydraulics business. He enjoyed repairing equipment, B.J. Hughes-built race cars, and various other cars too. In 1987, he worked on Pratt & Whitney Engines at C.E. Page Airport. When he decided he wanted to work on large aircraft, he got his A & P license and began working at AAR in OKC Aircraft Repair from 1988 to his retirement in 2013. Chuck became a designated inspector and also worked at the U.S. Marshall's hanger in OKC as Chief inspector.
On November 10, 1988, Chuck married the love of his life, Phyllis. Phyllis recalls his commitment to her: on the tragic day of 9/11, he was working in Lake Charles, LA and immediately jumped in his rental car when he found out about the terrorist attacks and drove straight home to be with his wife.
Charles life was full. He had a great love for aviation and Arkansas where his wife was from. Chuck was an avid golfer and bowler, and loved traveling, camping, and sports. A special memory was going to the O.U. Rose Bowl! Everyone loved him and he loved everyone. He had a great sense of humor and his laughter was infectious. Chuck lived as a true man of God.
Chuck is preceded in death by his daughters Stephanie and Tonya; granddaughter Rylee; parents Ernest and Lou Brakefield; brothers Dave, Tommy, J.B. and Chet; and sister Thelma.
He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Brakefield; sons Chris and Warren; daughters Debbie, April, and Tami; grandchildren Landon, Destiny, Lauryn, Wendi, Matt, Christina, and Sara; sister Dean; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Chuck lived a good live. We will all miss him so much.
