Alta May Nix, 98, of Yukon, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, at home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Edgar Lee Nix. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother during her long life. She was born on January 16, 1927, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Richard Benonia and Clara Emma Lumpkin.
Alta May graduated in 1945 from Daniel Webster High School, Tulsa, Oklahoma. For 35 years, Alta May was church secretary for the Mountainside Church of Christ, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Alta May and Edgar were active lifelong members and leaders of the local Church of Christ as they moved throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico during their marriage. At her death, she was a member of the North MacArthur Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. May and Ed read the Bible daily during their 77 years of marriage. She taught Sunday school classes for many years.
Alta May enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and tatting. She sewed clothes for the family and made custom draperies and other home décor items for their homes. She also created many special items for friends and family over the years and described her happiest days as those when she did something special or gave something special to someone else. And for 32 years she designed and annually made Christmas ornaments for the entire family.
Alta May is survived by two children, Carol Jean Norris and James Richard Nix (wife Adeline); six grandchildren, Amy Ramsey (husband James), Angela Chiriboga (husband Freddy), Amber Fuerstenberger (husband Mark), Robyn Keele (husband Micah), Sandi Doyel (husband Colby), and Timothy Nix (wife Elizabeth); and fifteen great-grandchildren, Emma Allen-Morgan, Mark Gaer, Jamie Landry (husband Luke), Gabby Chiriboga, Marcie Chiriboga, Cole Ramsey, Hannah Keele, Jonah Keele, Abigail Keele, Zoie Doyel, Landin Doyel, Declan Nix, Clara Nix, Liam Nix, and Aiden Nix.
Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 10:00 am at Rose Hill Cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Memorial donations may be sent to Glory Christian School, Yukon, Oklahoma.
