Michael Schimmer Obituary
God has blessed our family with the dear soul of Michael Roy Schimmer, a Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, and Friend. His life was a testimony of faith, strength, and courage as a great warrior who battled against Parkinson’s disease for the last 19 years. All the glories of heaven are celebrating and welcoming our great Hero! Mike has won! Now through the given grace of our Father, he is free.
On October 8, 2019, Michael Roy Schimmer pressed on towards the goal of winning the prize for which God has called him Heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14). Mike was born on November 21, 1949, to LeRoy and Rita Schimmer in Clinton, OK, where he was raised on the family farm with his two brothers, Kenneth and Monte. After graduating from the Custer City School System, Mike earned his Business and Accounting degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. One evening while attending a school dance, Mike met Debbie Hart from OKC. The city girl and the cowboy with a gentle soul eventually married on August 12, 1972, by Pastor Eldon Moelling at Asbury United Methodist in OKC. The couple moved to Yukon and were blessed with two sons, Michael Jason and Paul Aaron. Mike worked as a manager for several of the Firestone Tire Company stores in OKC. Later, he returned to his western Oklahoma heritage where he served as a territorial salesman for Hercules Tires.
Mike was known for his dry wit and keen ability with numbers. He could be found reading a good book or growing beautiful flowers in his garden. Mike enjoyed both country music and going to the opera in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was devoted both to his family and his faith. As a dedicated family man, he was always a part of his sons’ activities and cherished time with his grandchildren. Mike attended the First United Methodist Church of Yukon and always supported Debbie’s school and church projects.
Mike Schimmer is survived by his dear wife Debbie; sons Michael Jason (Sarah) and Paul Aaron (Leida); grandchildren Ella, Madeleine, Cora, Henry, and Ford Schimmer; mother Rita Schimmer; brothers Kenneth (Patty) and Monte (Sandy); and many friends. Dear loved ones who have preceded on are Mike’s father LeRoy Schimmer; aunt Hermina and uncle Clements Klein; uncle Lawrence Klein; and grandmothers Mary Klein and Gertrude Schimmer.
The Schimmer family wish to thank Mercy Home Health, caregivers Erica, Jeanie, and Sadie, and Physical Therapists Sheree and Chelsee for all of their excellent care, assistance and great support.
